A Behavioral Issue

There is something wrong with the leadership in your company when they leave you waiting for two months after the interview on their decision. In case, you’re a new reader the decision was premised on an interview I had on April 3. What was unique about the interview was that it was a behavioral based interview. In these type of interview my job was to tell them the panel of a time when I did [insert their question] and what was my outcome. It lasted about an hour. The stress of the magnitude of the interview was tremendous. Everyone was talking about it (upper management, store managers and assistants to include shift leads). I am an assistant who has a position to lose. Whereas a shift lead as I was told by one shift lead has nothing to lose. She was right. So hear lies my issue. I am a puppet on a string and I don’t like it. I am a company-made drifter because my job title is being eliminated and I ,potentially, have no where to go. I am waiting on a word and if they won’t speak to me give me a nod signifying that I am one of their choices. I am one of many managers waiting to hear something. As it stands right now in its raw form the silence is deafening. It’s discouraging and it is wrong to be left at sea with no paddle. It really feels like they don’t care.

Seventh Day – Braided Style

image

The good thing about my dreads being braided is that the hair is off of my ears and the style still has a fresh look, 7 days later. They still feel tight, but not as tight as before. I honestly thought that my dreads would need to be re braided at thus point but that isn’t the case. I think I’m going to wear the style for a few more days and then take it down. I will let it hang free for a few days and see where we go from there. The one thing that I noticed  is that my scalp itches underneath the braids. But overall, I have enjoyed the new style and look, more to come! 🙂

Stylized…

image

So today I went and get my first loc style. The experience was really gratifying.  Mostly because this was an area that I had not gone before and had some reservations about. Like I said in the previous post, I should have no shame for who I am naturally. This journey has been a spiritual (mental) one of self discovery. In that vein, I have thought long and hard about things that are important to me as it relates to my hair and overall appearance. So entertaining a style specific to my culture makes me feel great! I plan to get several more styles in the future. Insert :-)!

Can a Style Be Too Ethnic?

So I am thinking about a style for my dreadlocks and a question arose within me. Would one style be more ethnic than another? I really hate to ponder the question but let’s face it, it is the elephant in the room. I wear a shirt and tie everyday or at least I should. My bosses have a certain look and I guess I do too! Lol. I guess in the long run it boils down to what do I like, what can I live with, and ultimately who am I trying to please? I can’t change my ethnicity. I was born this way. I am a Black man. There is no shame in that. In saying that I am going to embrace a style that may be deemed specific to my culture real soon.

In Style

I am finally ready to do something (style-wise) other than wearing my locs loose and free. I am not sure what style will work for me so my wheels are spinning. I plan to get something this weekend. Stay tuned. 🙂
